Introductory training program in practical conservation, at the International Conservation Centre, Acre, Israel Deadline: December 15, 2011 The International Conservation Center in Acre is accepting applications for the winter term of Saving The Stones - a Practical Conservation introduction-level program. This five month internship is intended to give current graduate students and recent graduates of archeology, architecture, history, art, and other related subjects, the opportunity to apply their skills and knowledge to the field of conservation. Generous grants are provided to participants, according to eligibility, by MASA - Israel Journey and the ICC. Based in one of the oldest port cities in the world, a UNESCO World Heritage site, the programs enables interns to join the Israel Antiquity Authority teams of conservators, architects and archaeologists that work in Acre and gain experience in ancient masonry work and other ancient building materials. Participants are exposed to all conservation procedures--historic documentation, survey, treatment planning, etc. and get to "try their hand" at many of the diverse areas that conservation work encompass. All this in a city which bares the great evidence of renowned ancient cultures including the Hellenistic, Roman, Mamluk, the Crusaders, the Ottoman Empire and the British mandate. One day a week is dedicated to touring on-going archeological excavations, getting a 'behind the scenes' glimpse of the archaeological activity and meeting with professional people that are prominent in the field. Participants also engage in a major archaeological dig in Jerusalem, and enjoy a rich cultural and social activity. Participants who completed all practical and theoretical aspects of the program, are awarded an Israel Antiquity Authority Conservation certificate.
