The US Army Heritage and Education Center (USAHEC) in Carlisle,
Pennsylvania is having an open house to celebrate it's 10th
anniversary Friday November 4, 2011, 1-4pm. The original Military
History Institute archives started in the 1960's grew into a 14
million volume archive, book and photo collection which was moved
into a new archival facility in 2004, after being directed by the
Sec. Army in 2001 to be developed into what is now USAHEC. USAHEC
includes the Army Heritage Museum (AHM) collection which now
contains over 50,000 artifacts. This past April a new Visitor and
Education Center opened with a gallery currently featuring a Civil
War exhibit. In November a new 30,000 square foot Conservation
Facility will open featuring Objects, Textiles, and Paper
conservation labs; an analytical lab; an audio-visual reformatting
lab; photography room; and new storage for our museum artifacts and
fine art.
