Conservator of Chinese Paintings Conservation and Scientific Research British Museum Full Time Permanent UKP21,670 The British Museum has an outstanding collection of Chinese pictorial art, the conservation of which is conducted in the Museum's Hirayama Studio, the leading facility dedicated to the conservation of East Asian painting in Europe. Its work is rooted in the traditional East Asian techniques and best practice, informed by current methods and practices developed in paper and paintings conservation. The British Museum is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated conservator of East Asian works, to train in the conservation of Chinese paintings, scrolls, screens and other works on paper and silk in the Hirayama Studio. You will demonstrate a commitment to long-term training in this specialist area and to the conservation, care, preservation and restoration of the Museum's collections. You will also support the senior Conservator in delivering the busy exhibition and loan work programme. An excellent communicator and team player you will have a recognised professional qualification in paper conservation and an acute understanding of the principles, concepts and techniques of East Asian painting conservation. In addition, a good level of both written and spoken English language skills is essential, and some experience of working with Chinese pictorial art is desirable for the post.
