Publication on conservation of bronze age rock carvings

From: William Meacham <wmeacham<-a>

The Hong Kong Government recently commissioned a study of the
conservation of 8 Bronze Age rock carvings and 1 Sung dynasty rock
inscription. The four advisers' reports are now online at

    <URL:http://www.lcsd.gov.hk/CE/Museum/Monument/en/research.php>

The advisers were (in order as the reports are listed on the
website): Richard Engelhardt, Valerie Magar, William Meacham, Andrew
Thorne.

The major issues were the use of chemicals (biocides, water
repellents, and consolidants), protective screens or cages, public
access, and water percolating down and through the rock. There are
some rather deep divergences of opinion amongst the advisers.

If any DistList reader has comments on these reports, they can be
