BSI PD5454 review deadline

Colleagues who have noted the consultation on the recently reviewed
BSI PD5454 should note that the deadline for comments is 30, 2011 of
September (not 31 August 2011 as previously announced).

For readers who are not members of the UK Institute of Conservation
(Icon) and have not seen the Iconnect announcement (or others via
ARA and Archives-NRA), PD5454 Guide for the Storage and Exhibition
of Archival Documents is a revision of BS5454:2000.  It brings the
latter up-to-date, attempts to remedy some of the fundamental
concerns that have been expressed about the old standard and
prepares the ground for a proposed European standard that will
replace it in due course.

PD5454 covers environment, packaging, building structure, fire
protection and security for the preservation of archival and library
collections including photographic and machine readable formats.  It
has been reviewed in parallel with recent work on another UK guide,
PAS 198, which covers environmental considerations for all heritage
collection types (but does not cover building, security, fire etc).
