Technician Heritage Smells! project Centre for Sustainable Heritage University College London The internationally recognised Centre for Sustainable Heritage is seeking a technician, carrying out technical support on the AHRC/EPSRC Science and Heritage Programme project Heritage Smells!, performing laboratory and data analysis, and writing technical reports. This is a part time position (50% FTE), funding has been identified for 23 months. Heritage Smells! is an exciting interdisciplinary project looking at emissions of volatile compounds from heritage materials and objects, particularly historic paper and plastic materials and pesticide-treated objects, with a view to develop non-destructive identification and condition assessment methods. Apart from method development and implementation, the appointee will also work with students and research associates, travel to heritage institutions in the UK to undertake fieldwork, manage and maintain the Heritage Science Laboratory, the instrumentation and computers needed to carry out the research, implement fire safety and laboratory safety regulations and undertake appropriate training and liaise with various stakeholders. The appointee will have a BSc or MSc in a physical science subject (chemistry, physics, forensic, material science or similar), considerable practical knowledge of chromatographic and spectrometric analytical methods and considerable practical knowledge of data analysis software.
