Subject: Conference on public outreach
Playing to the Galleries and Engaging New Audiences: The Public Face of Conservation Hennage Auditorium DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum 325 West Francis Street Williamsburg, Virginia November 14-16, 2011 Outreach has become a large part of the conservator's life; from behind-the-scenes tours to working in the galleries, exhibits to video-learning or even blogs, conservators increasingly find themselves asked to talk about their work and the need for it. Each institution and each conservator within that organization adopts a unique approach to outreach that fits within the available resources and meets the institutional needs. This conference provides conservators and educators an opportunity to talk about what has worked and what hasn't and to explore the impact that conservation programming has on audiences. Session topics include: engaging communities, presenting conservation through exhibits, communicating technical analysis, framing the public face of conservation and the role of social media in presenting conservation.
