Registrar, Collections City of Ottawa Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services, Cultural and Heritage Services 1 Full Time Continuous Position - 35 hours/week Competition Number: 2011-EX-EN-50058352-01 Competition closing date: 2011-08-22 Affiliation: CUPE 503 Salary: $54,341.56 to $63,583.52 Annually (2011 Rates of Pay) Location: Routhier Community Centre, 172 Guigues Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario Responsible for the day-to-day administration and coordination of the Corporate Art Collection, including where applicable, the implementation of the Acquisitions Program, Collection Management Program, Lending Program, as well as but not limited to, organizing and assisting with the facilitation of peer review juries, analysis and preparation of reports, responsible for the accurate registration, cataloguing, maintaining of displays/exhibitions/storage spaces, receiving shipments/loans, assisting with the installing and dismantling of exhibitions, and tracking of loaned internal and external City of Ottawa artwork collections. Assists with the intellectual (information) and physical management of the collection; researching and responding to public enquiries through knowledgeable and tactful communication with artists, donors, appraisers, organizations, and the general public; responsible for implementing various aspects of preventative conservation procedures and practices, preparing condition reports, implementing environmental and pest management monitoring and emergency preparedness plans of the City of Ottawa's collections. Education and Experience: Completion of a three (3) year university or community college program in art history, fine arts, conservation or museum studies. Three (3) years experience working in a public art related field, in collections management in an art gallery or art museum, (specifically in the areas of registration, loan procedures and contemporary art materials), and/or in the coordination of multi-phased public art projects (including juried competitions, art installations and exhibition planning, etc). Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements. Language, Certificates and Licenses: Day 1 Ready--immediate requirement for language proficiency: French oral, reading, writing. English oral, reading, writing. Candidates must meet language requirement for position upon hire. The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Record Check to the City of Ottawa's satisfaction. Knowledge, Competencies and Skills Preventive conservation; Complex art/object materials and processes; Contracting processes and administering artist and loan contracts; Public Art policy and procedures and competitions; Research, data collection and analysis methods; Project management principles and practices; Word processing, photographic and database applications (Excel, Filemaker, Photoshop, PowerPoint, Word); Knowledge of handling, installation and delivery of artworks; Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers; Work independently and take initiative; Work on multi-disciplinary teams; Prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines; To organize the work and its performance; Research, assemble and analyze data/information; Liaise and communicate with all organizational levels, including Elected Representatives, senior staff, artists and general public; Write effectively in a clear, concise manner.
