Subject: Workshop on microscopy
"Microscopy for Pigment and Fiber Identification in Art and Artifacts" September 12-16, 2011 The Campbell Center is offering a workshop entitled "Microscopy for Pigment and Fiber Identification in Art and Artifacts." This workshop is being taught by Dr. Gary Laughlin of McCrone Research Institute, Chicago. The date for this workshop is September 12-16, 2011. Tuition is $1150 and includes all equipment and materials for the workshop plus lodging and most meals. A discount is available to individuals registering for this workshop and the Microchemical Analysis workshop offered the following week. Course Description: In this course, students will learn the necessary skills for the visual characterization and identification of artists' materials by polarized light microscopy (PLM). The emphasis will be on the proper use of the microscope for the analysis of common paint pigments, textile fibers, and rock-forming minerals. Students will also learn sampling procedures and the use of flowcharts and keys to determine a positive identity for a wide variety of modern and historic materials.
