The Conservation and Collection Care Department (C&CC) safeguards
the collections of Oxford University's Bodleian Libraries through a
combination of conservation treatments, environmental control and
monitoring, specialist housing, and training of staff and readers in
the handling of our collections. The C&CC Department consists of
several sections: Book and Paper Conservation, Preventive,
Exhibitions and Packaging and Display Services.

As a member of the Book and Paper Conservation Section, your main
duty will be the fasciculing and basic repair of selected collection
items, both in single sheet and bound formats, under the supervision
and guidance of a conservator and/or line manager. You will be able
to carry out technical tasks to a high standard and with
considerable autonomy, and will be expected to make basic decisions
about housing measures in collaboration with specialist conservators
and line manager.

Candidates should have significant experience of providing technical
support to a book or paper conservation team of conservators, either
in a library, archive or museum environment. This will also include
certain knowledge of conservation techniques on paper, book, and
related materials. Experience in giving technical support for the
preparation / installation of exhibitions is desirable.

In the context of the Bodleian Libraries, and due to the high demand
for conservation treatments and wide variety of our collections, the
post will have a high degree of flexibility in their approach to
work and professional development. The successful candidate will
have the ability to work effectively and constructively as part of a
team or individually, as well as to alter working patterns to meet
organisational needs.

Due to the nature of this post, candidates will be required to
undertake a Disclosure Scotland check as well as a financial
background check. The possession of a criminal record or poor
financial background will not necessarily prevent an applicant from
obtaining this post, as all cases are judged individually according
to the nature of the role and information provided.
