Conservator - Organic Artefacts Department of Conservation and Scientific Research The British Museum (6 month maternity cover, with possibility of extension to 12 months) UKP21,670 per annum As a member of the organic materials conservation team, you will assist with the conservation of the Museum's extensive collections of organic artefacts and contribute generally to the care of collections programme. In close collaboration with staff of the various curatorial departments, you will carry out all aspects of the practical conservation of objects for display, loan, storage and research purposes. You will possess a recognised professional qualification, which includes the conservation of archaeological organic materials and will have demonstrable practical conservation skills gained in previous employment or on training placements. Experience in the conservation of archaeological and/or historic objects from a range of different periods and cultures will also be an advantage. You should also have an understanding of conservation theory and ethical decision making, together with an awareness of health and safety issues.
