Contract: 6 month maternity cover, with possibility of extension to
12 months)

UKP 26,820 to 33,282 per annum pro-rata depending on experience

The British Museum is currently recruiting for a Scientist to work
within the department of Conservation and Scientific Research. This
post will involve responsibility for research and investigation of
the origin and preservation of amorphous organic materials in the
collections of the British Museum.

The ideal candidate will have a strong and relevant science
background combined with experience in organic analysis of museum
collection material, archaeological residues or natural products
using analytical techniques, especially GC-MS, py-GC-MS and SPME.
These skills should be combined with experience of general
laboratory management (including health and safety) and
supervisory/training experience. A strong interest or experience in
the technology and conservation of museum objects would be an
advantage.

Good verbal and written communication skills are essential; the
post-holder will be required to disseminate results and information
through reports, publication and lecturing etc. and to participate
in public outreach events.

The Museum is looking to appoint a candidate who is able to start as
soon as possible and ideally, is able to start in September
