The National Gallery of Art conservation division is seeking the
assistance of an object conservator to serve as an independent
contractor to work for the equivalent of 48 weeks on the treatment
of several individual panels of a large mosaic by Marc Chagall,
beginning in September 2011.   All of the work will take place
within the confines of the National Gallery of Art in Washington,
DC.  The scope of the project will be to remove facing material and
excess adhesive from the front surface of mosaic using techniques
demonstrated by NGA staff and to assist in the preparation of the
mosaic panels for installation in the Sculpture Garden.

The conservator contracted for this project is expected to be a
graduate of a recognized training program or have equivalent
educational qualifications. Those who wish to be considered for this
project should have experience treating a variety of
three-dimensional works of art and the ability to work
independently.

Candidates interested in being considered for this project must
submit a letter outlining their qualifications, a curriculum vitae
that includes basic biographical information, current and permanent
addresses, telephone numbers, email address and contain a
description of previous conservation experience and internships.  A
digital portfolio of 3 treatment reports and photo documentation is
required.  You may also submit up to 3 publications. Three
references that may be contacted for verbal recommendations must be
included.

Given the source of the funding for this project, the conservator
selected must be a United States citizen (no foreign visas will be
considered) and compensation will be provided in a contractual
manner with the total award equivalent to an assistant conservator
position at approximately, $50,000 per annum.
