This 4-part seminar is designed for individuals responsible for the
care and preservation of private or public collections. Participants
learn appropriate care practices available to the non-specialist, as
well as how the services of expert conservators can extend the life
of a collection. In addition, the seminar covers topics critical to
those working or volunteering in collections care, including but not
limited to the effects of the environment; materials used in
storage, packing, and display; and preservation of metal artifacts.
By the seminar's end, students will recognize materials susceptible
to damage in the California climate; implement methods to prevent
damage and extend collection life; design plans for archival storage
and display; identify specific types of deterioration found on
metals; determine when to involve a conservator. Applies toward
Certificate in Archaeology.
