Position at American Museum of Natural History

The American Museum of Natural History is currently recruiting an
Associate Objects Conservator.  The Associate Conservator will
report directly to the Director of Conservation, Natural Science
Collections and will assist in ensuring that policies and procedures
concerning the conservation and preservation of AMNH objects and
specimens are implemented.  High-level focus will be placed on
maintenance of the collections risk management and emergency
preparedness program, implementation of object exhibit and travel
procedures, and collaboration with the permanent collections staff
on issues concerning specimen conservation and preservation.  The
position will be required to work independently on conservation
treatments and provide specialist advice concerning long-term
storage, transport and installation of collections.

The applicant should hold a recognized qualification in Conservation
(M.A. or M.S. in Art Conservation, or equivalent) with demonstrable
practical experience (5+ years museum experience working in a
conservation laboratory, experience with natural science collections
and/or preventive conservation a plus).  It is essential to have
analytical and problem-solving skills, good end-use IT skills,
organizational, time-management and planning skills, and to be an
effective communicator and a strong team player.

The Museum is looking to appoint a candidate who ideally is able to
start in September, 2011.
