Conservator, Bartholomew Archive Project National Library of Scotland UKP23,037 - UKP26,707pa. Fixed term until 31 March 2012 with the possibility of an extension National Library of Scotland Edinburgh The National Library of Scotland in Edinburgh is one of Europe's leading research libraries and the largest library in Scotland, with world class collections, services and expertise. Within the collections lies the Bartholomew Archive and applications are invited for the position of Conservator to apply remedial treatments and preventive measures to the archive. The Bartholomew Archive is the remarkable record of the Edinburgh-based firm of map engravers, printers and publishers, John Bartholomew and Son Ltd and is one of the most extensive cartographic archives available for research in a public institution. As a member of the Conservation Unit, you will be responsible for the application of remedial treatment and protection measures to the Bartholomew Archive. You must be enthusiastic and have excellent communication and problem solving skills. You should be able to adapt to different challenges and demonstrate a wide knowledge of preservation issues. The ability to apply traditional and modern conservation techniques is essential. You will be able to work well on your own and as part of a team. A qualification/degree in book or paper conservation and relevant practical experience is essential. Registration from the Society of Archivists and/or Accredited status would be considered desirable.
