Fixed term for 2 years

The Bodleian Libraries is seeking a highly motivated and experienced
Book Conservator to join the Book and Paper Conservation section for
two years. The Conservation and Collection Care Department
safeguards the world class collection of Oxford University's
Bodleian Libraries and consists of several sections: Book and Paper
Conservation, Preventive Conservation, Exhibitions, and Packaging
and Display Services.

You will undertake the conservation treatment of bound items and
other related material as well as the preparation of condition
reports and treatment proposals. You will also give advice and
provide training to other members of staff and readers on the
handling and use of the collections and will occasionally assist in
the preparation and installation of exhibitions.

You should have a recognised qualification in conservation of books
or related materials, or equivalent training and experience;
detailed knowledge and experience of high-level conservation
treatments on books and related materials, and detailed knowledge of
book structures. You must be able to demonstrate that they can work
effectively and constructively, both independently and as part of a
team, and be able to alter working patterns to meet organisational
needs. Accreditation under the Professional Accreditation of
Conservator-Restorers (PACR) scheme is desirable.

Due to the nature of this post, candidates will be required to
undertake a Disclosure Scotland check as well as a financial
background check. The possession of a criminal record or poor
financial background will not necessarily prevent an applicant from
obtaining this post, as all cases are judged individually according
to the nature of the role and information provided.
