After the very well received launch event FUTURE TALKS 009 in
October 2009, with more than 200 participants from 15 countries,
FUTURE TALKS have become an exciting platform for discussions and
the exchange of knowledge and experience of professionals, related
to the conservation of modern materials. The follow-up conference
FUTURE TALKS 011 highlights the state-of-the-art of scientific
research and focuses on technological aspects and active treatments
in the conservation of modern materials. A topic which is
unfortunately too often neglected.

During the three day conference 27 experts from all over the world
will present their experiences and knowledges in this field (for
further information:

The excellent response to our FUTURE TALKS 011 Call for Papers
illustrates the ongoing interest in this topic. That's why the
FUTURE TALKS are growing...

Save the date: The conference will take place October 26-28, 2011 at
the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich, Germany, organised by the
Conservation Department of Die Neue Sammlung--The International
Design Museum Munich.

There will also be a social event and opportunities to visit local
laboratories on Saturday October 29, 2011. We very much appreciate
the participation of students, scientists, conservators and
curators.

The conference and the associated publication will be in English.
The long awaited publication FT 009 will be available at the
conference.

Organiser The conference is initiated and organised by the
Conservation Department of Die Neue Sammlung, The International
Design Museum Munich

Die Neue Sammlung houses the world's largest collection of
industrial design. The objects reflect the technologies and
materials developed in the course of the 20th century, attesting in
particular to the use of plastics.

However, unlike most traditional materials these are subject to a
dynamic aging process and after only a short time often already bear
irreversible traces of degradation. Corresponding types of damage
can hardly be reconciled with the respective designer's original
intentions and are often problematic in terms of conservation. Since
its founding in 2002, the Conservation Department has become an
important hub for the conservation and maintenance of modern design
objects, through research into the deterioration and preservation of
the collections, the development of new conservation processes and
the knowledge of its original technology. It also plays an active
role in networking and information sharing.
