Subject: Position at University of Tartu
Professor of Laboratory Archaeology (1,0) Institute of History and Archaeology University of Tartu, Estonia Term of contract: Jan 2, 2012 - Jan 31, 2017 The deadline for applications is 1 July 2011 At the moment, a current vacancy of the professor in laboratory archaeology (1,0) is open at the University of Tartu, the second largest town in Estonia and an acknowledged university town in Europe. With the invitation we are asking qualified candidates to apply for the position. The professorate of laboratory archaeology is young and has been active only in the past five years. With these years there have not been many substantial undertakings in the field, so the vacant position offers great possibility to build a working institution of laboratory archaeology, involving both the training of specialists in the area as well as developing a functional scientific laboratory for the whole Baltic States. Besides classroom teaching and supervising students the professor of laboratory archaeology is responsible for developing a functioning and high-level conservation and preservation laboratory. Required language skills--Estonian needed--should not discourage the possible candidates, it can be passed. In Autumn 2011 Institute of History and Archaeology will be moving into a freshly renovated building in the centre of Tartu, providing excellent opportunities to equip a working laboratory. The personnel of archaeologists in the Institute of History and Archaeology is not very large, but we have many interested students who would like to have a more adequate picture of the subject.
