Scientist: Old Master drawing project Department of Conservation and Scientific Research The British Museum Contract: Fixed Term, 9 months UKP 22,907 pa The British Museum is currently recruiting for a researcher to work within the Department of Conservation and Scientific Research on a project to examine and analyse Old Master drawings from the Museum's collections. This post will involve undertaking technical imaging and non invasive analysis (X ray fluorescence and Raman spectroscopy) of Old Master drawings by Italian and Northern artists, with particular emphasis on a group of drawings by Leonardo da Vinci. The project will build on protocols developed previously for this type of study and will involve liaising with other scientists, conservators and curators to interpret the results, document the results fully, and helping to prepare the material for publication and presentation. The ideal candidate will have a background in science and/or conservation research and an interest or experience working in the areas of conservation science and/or technical analysis of drawings or paintings. You will have an interest in the ways in which technical analysis can help to inform the interpretation, treatment and future care of drawings, with a particular interest in interdisciplinary collaboration to advance these studies. You will have experience in non destructive/ non contact analysis and imaging techniques, will be familiar with the technologies and interpreting the data they produce and will ideally have conducted some previous research in this area.
