Please note:  Due to unforeseen personnel changes, the Indianapolis
Museum of Art has reconfigured its original posting for an Associate
Conservator of Objects to an entry level Assistant Conservator of
Objects to permit also hiring an Assistant Conservator of Textiles.

Assistant Conservator of Objects

    The Indianapolis Museum of Art (IMA) is seeking an Assistant
    Conservator of Objects to participate in all aspects of caring
    for its diverse collection of traditional three-dimensional
    works of art.  Responsibilities will include preventive care,
    examination, documentation, treatment, exhibition preparation,
    research, advocacy and outreach.  Initial emphasis will be on
    the survey, treatment, and reinstallation of the African, Asian,
    and Design Arts collections

    Applicants must have a master's degree from a recognized
    conservation training program and at least one year of
    post-program/internship experience.  A broad knowledge of
    various media and materials over a wide range of cultures is
    essential, as are skills and abilities in traditional objects
    conservation practice.  The successful candidate will work in
    tandem with the Conservator of Objects and Variable Art, and
    must be able to collaborate with other conservators and
    departmental staff, conservation scientists, curators,
    registrars, art handling, design and installation staff, and a
    variety of other museum employees in furthering the mission of
    the museum.

    The IMA boasts well-equipped conservation labs staffed by
    specialists in paintings, paper, objects, and textiles
    conservation, along with a state-of-the-art conservation science

    This full time position will be available beginning July 1,

    Conservator of Textiles to participate in all aspects of caring
    for its diverse collection of textiles and fashion arts.
    Responsibilities will include preventive care, examination,
    documentation, treatment, exhibition preparation, research,
    advocacy and outreach.

    Applicants must have a master's degree from a recognized
    conservation training program and at least one year of
    post-program/internship experience.  A broad knowledge of
    textiles and garments along with hands-on experience and skill
    in many aspects of textile creation are essential, as are skills
    and abilities in textile conservation practice.  The successful
    candidate will work in tandem with the Senior Conservator of
    Textiles, and must be able to collaborate with other
    conservators and departmental staff, conservation scientists,
    curators, registrars, art handling, design and installation
    staff, and a variety of other museum employees in furthering the
    mission of the museum.
