Assistant Conservator of Objects The Indianapolis Museum of Art (IMA) is seeking an Assistant Conservator of Objects to participate in all aspects of caring for its diverse collection of traditional three-dimensional works of art. Responsibilities will include preventive care, examination, documentation, treatment, exhibition preparation, research, advocacy and outreach. Initial emphasis will be on the survey, treatment, and reinstallation of the African, Asian, and Design Arts collections Applicants must have a master's degree from a recognized conservation training program and at least one year of post-program/internship experience. A broad knowledge of various media and materials over a wide range of cultures is essential, as are skills and abilities in traditional objects conservation practice. The successful candidate will work in tandem with the Conservator of Objects and Variable Art, and must be able to collaborate with other conservators and departmental staff, conservation scientists, curators, registrars, art handling, design and installation staff, and a variety of other museum employees in furthering the mission of the museum. The IMA boasts well-equipped conservation labs staffed by specialists in paintings, paper, objects, and textiles conservation, along with a state-of-the-art conservation science laboratory <URL:http://www.imamuseum.org/art/conservation> This full time position will be available beginning July 1, 2011.
