Conservator Canadian Centre for Architecture Permanent, full time (35hrs/week) <URL:http://www.cca.qc.ca> The main responsibilities of this position are the conservation and preservation of the CCA Collection (primarily works on paper and photographs) and collection materials under the CCA's care. The Conservator contributes to the understanding of the significance and the physical integrity of the Collection. The incumbent develops and implements strategies and programs to preserve and ensure access to new media, including digital files, sound and moving image recordings. Main Job Responsibilities Responsible for preventive conservation measures in order to stabilise, to slow deterioration and change, and to facilitate access to Collection Examine works to identify their constituent materials and technique, understand, their material history, assess their condition, identify condition changes and propose treatment Carry out conservation treatment of collection objects Document the condition of objects for conservation and preservation purposes using photography, scientific analysis, and the preparation of reports Establish conservation standards for new media objects and contribute to their conservation Work closely with technology staff, conservators, registrar, collections and documentation and other staff providing advice and expertise in maintenance, access and preservation of new media Participate in the training, support and supervision of all personnel members involved in preventive conservation and conservation treatment Take part in the development of the emergency preparedness plan for CCA collection and in the training of personnel in emergency measures Direct collection salvage operations in the event of a collections' emergency Work closely with exhibition staff in the development of exhibition methods and materials that ensure the safety of objects being displayed Participate in, or otherwise ensure, the safe handling and installation of unprotected objects during the installation and dismantling of exhibitions Prepare condition reports and undertake conservation treatments for loans and objects to be exhibited. Carry out research on conservation and preservation topics Assess risks and implements safety measures in the conservation and preservation work environment Keep abreast of changes and advance in the field of conservation by means of consultation and exchange with scientists and other experts Job qualifications required Education: Masters of Art Conservation from a recognised program Number of years of relevant work experience:2 to 5 years, preferably in a museum, archive or library with an active exhibitions and loan program. Demonstrated experience in the conservation of paper and/or photographs.
