Samuel H. Kress Conservation Fellowship in objects conservation
Kelsey Museum of Archaeology

The Kelsey Museum of Archaeology at the University of Michigan is
pleased to be able to offer a Samuel H. Kress Conservation
Fellowship in objects conservation for the 2011-2012 year.
Administered by the Foundation of the American Institute for
Conservation, the $32,000 Fellowship includes a $27,000 stipend,
with annual leave and medical benefits through the University of
Michigan.

The Kelsey Museum of Archaeology is located in Ann Arbor, Michigan,
and houses a collection of 100,000 archaeological objects from the
ancient civilizations of the Mediterranean and Near East. In
addition to holding a variety of changing exhibitions, the Museum
sponsors research, archaeological fieldwork, and a wide range of
visitor programs. The Kelsey Museum and the University of Michigan
community offer a rewarding environment for an emerging conservator
to develop his or her professional skills.

The Fellow's primary project will be to design and implement a
conservation treatment plan for a collection of limestone funerary
stelae excavated from the Graeco-Roman site of Terenouthis, Egypt.
Additional projects will include conservation treatments of a
variety of organic and inorganic artifacts excavated from the
Graeco-Roman site of Karanis, Egypt, and contributing to an upcoming
exhibition about conservation. The Fellow will be supervised by
conservation staff and will participate as a conservation team
member in the daily activities of the conservation laboratory. The
Fellow will have the opportunity to work closely with the Museum's
curators, educators, and other specialists.

The Fellowship is offered for one year, beginning in September 2011.
Applicants must hold a master's degree in conservation and be recent
graduates of a recognized conservation training program. Interested
applicants should submit a one-page letter of interest, curriculum
vitae, and contact details for three references before May 23, 2011.
These should be sent as electronic attachments to Suzanne Davis at
davissl<-a t->umich< . >edu.

Interviews will be conducted in late May and early June 2011 by
phone, or, if possible, in person at the AIC annual meeting in
Philadelphia.
