Content: Historical overview and demonstration of principal pigments
in 16 century Safavid and Mughal illumination. Processes -

    How to make fine shell gold from 24 carat gold leaf
    Grinding
    Washing and processing malachite into pigment
    Dyeing paper with henna
    Sizing and gold-sprinkling
    Design and technique--Analyzing structure of classic
    illumination design
    drafting and painting a section of illuminated border.

Participants will leave with samples of shell gold,
malachite paint, reference notes and own work.
