ICON Ethnography Group's Spotlight Tour: Bark Cloth
Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, Economic Botany Collection
Friday 1 July, 2011
11am - 5pm
Meet at 10.45 at main gate on Kew Green

Cost: Free

Please join ICON's Ethnography Group this summer, as we team up with
Kew Gardens to bring you another free event.

We are pleased to be able to offer a free day out at Kew Gardens,
hosted by Mark Nesbitt, curator of the Economic Botany Collection
(EBC), Sherry Doyal (British Museum) and Emily Brennan (Textile
Conservation Ltd).

The day will begin with a tour of the EBC, focusing on the botany
and diversity of bark cloth worldwide. This will be followed by a
leisurely lunch, provided by Kew and the Ethno Group. After lunch,
a 'round-table' discussion will be led by Sherry, focusing on
conserved and un-conserved bark cloth pieces, and Emily, presenting
her work on Jamaican lace-bark. The day will conclude with a tour
though the gardens, led by Mark, providing a closer look at bark
cloth plants. Participants will then be able to explore the gardens
at their leisure. The Gardens will remain open until 6.30 pm.
Participants are also invited to congregate at The Botanist on Kew
Green for dinner or drinks after (see below).

Logistics:

Participants are responsible for providing their own
    transportation.

Both the tour and entry into Kew Gardens is free.

The cost of dinner/drinks at the Botanist will not be covered -
    participants are responsible for this.

Please ensure that you are dressed appropriately for the weather
    and wear comfortable shoes!

Directions and details of the day will be emailed to
participants closer to the day of the tour.

Space is limited to 15 people and is allocated on a first come,
    first served basis.
