Indianapolis Museum of Art

The Indianapolis Museum of Art (IMA) is seeking to hire an Associate
Conservator of Objects.  This person will be responsible for the
care, preservation, examination and treatment of a broad range of
traditional three-dimensional works of art in the museum's permanent
collection of the Arts of Asia, Africa, the Pacific Islands, Europe,
and the Americas. Initial emphasis will be on the survey, treatment,
and reinstallation of the Asian and African collections.

Applicants must have a master's degree from a recognized
conservation program, 4-6 years of post program/internship
experience, and knowledge of various media and materials over a wide
range of cultures, with preferred emphasis on the conservation of
Asian and African art. The candidate must be skilled in performing
historic and materials research. Excellent oral communication and
writing skills and the ability to work cooperatively with
conservation, curatorial, and scientific staff are essential. Duties
will include supervision of interns, fellows, and volunteers, as
well as lecturing, writing grants, and submitting materials for
publication.

The IMA has well equipped conservation labs in the areas of
paintings, paper, objects, and textiles, and a newly-opened,
state-of-the-art conservation science laboratory

The successful candidate will report to the Chief Conservator and
work alongside the Associate Conservator of Objects and Variable Art
(specializing in modern and contemporary art, design arts, and
responsibility for outdoor sculpture as well as the IMA's two
historic properties).

This full time position will be available beginning July 1, 2011.
Salary will be commensurate with experience.  A competitive benefits
