Editor (Maternity Cover) Journal of the Institute of Conservation Start Date: Monday 4 July 2011 This is an exciting opportunity to edit the Journal of the Institute of Conservation whilst the current Editor is on maternity leave. You will be responsible for planning and organising the production of the two issues of the Journal vol 35 no 1 (published Spring 2012) and vol 35 no 2 (parchment and vellum themed issue, published Autumn 2012) from receipt of manuscript to final publication within strict deadlines. You will also be involved in the planning and marketing of future issues of the Journal. As well as proven planning and organisational skills you will be a very good communicator with an excellent command of English language, an understanding of academic writing and the writing skills required to edit academic articles to the highest standard. You must have excellent wordprocessing skills, regular access to a computer, the internet and email, and a good telephone manner. An eye for detail, the drive to work under your own initiative and a meticulous approach to your work are also very important. A background in conservation is desirable and some experience of publishing would be helpful. You will need to have flexibility in the hours you work as some periods are busier than others. However, the approximate number of hours per week averages 14 hours for a 46-week year. This may increase if submissions for the journal increase. You will work on a free-lance basis and an honorarium of UKP3,300 per completed issue (UKP6,600 in total) will be paid.
