Subject: Futuro house
Conservation of flying saucer "We come in pieces" The University of Canberra has been given a Futuro house which has been erected on campus. The Futuro house was a futuristic modular housing project, built in the 1960's which looks like a flying saucer. It is made of glass fibre laminated on to steel ribs with what looks like a polyurethane insulated core. The exterior is finished with a silver coloured protective coating. It is about 3m high at the apex and 8m in diameter and is made in segments which are bolted together. It has been bashed around a bit, has various holes and modifications and the original door has been altered. If any one has any experience in the conservation of a Futuro house, similar projects or even the conservation of flying saucers please let me know. The truth is out there More information on the Futuro: <URL:http://www.berting.nl/futuro/> John Greenwood Senior Lecturer Heritage Conservation University of Canberra ACT 2601 +61 2 6201 2693 Fax: +61 2 6201 5034 Mobile: +44 406512013 *** Conservation DistList Instance 24:48 Distributed: Tuesday, April 19, 2011 Message Id: cdl-24-48-034 ***Received on Wednesday, 13 April, 2011
