Saving Energy in HVAC for Conservation Environments
9:30-4:30; $139
William P. Lull, Garrison/Lull Inc.

This workshop reviews typical energy use for HVAC in museums,
libraries, and archives, techniques to reduce energy
consumption, and how to reliably predict their annual cost
savings. The primary focus is on criteria set points and outside
air loads. Hand calculations and spreadsheets are used to
estimate savings from potential changes. Handouts include
weather data and sources, calculation formula reference sheets,
and calculation spreadsheets. This workshop is appropriate for
institutional and consulting conservators, as well as operating
and maintenance staff. Participants should bring a laptop if
    they have it available.

Museum Mannequins
10 AM - 5 PM; $139
Helen Alten, Northern States Conservation Center

Conservators are often asked to construct or consult on costume
displays, without having had training in constructing
custom-made mannequins. This workshop provides a comprehensive
look at all of the methods and materials used in museum
mannequin construction today. Participants are given the
opportunity to try different materials and experiment with
techniques discussed in the lectures. Participants will learn
how to measure a costume and use those measurements to determine
form dimension, will receive sample materials, learn the history
of museum mannequin construction, see prototypes of different
forms, practice working with some materials, learn the
importance of undergarments, and learn to attach the costume
    mount into an exhibit.
