Workshops at AIC Annual Meeting Philadelphia, PA Workshops will take place on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 unless otherwise specified. A minimum number of participants are required for all workshops. If a workshop is cancelled due to low enrollment, AIC will notify registrants as soon as possible and refund the appropriate fee. All workshop participants must also be registered for AIC's 39th Annual Meeting. A special one-day registration rate is available for those wishing to attend only a workshop on May 31, 2011. Workshop prices do not include meals. Saving Energy in HVAC for Conservation Environments 9:30-4:30; $139 William P. Lull, Garrison/Lull Inc. This workshop reviews typical energy use for HVAC in museums, libraries, and archives, techniques to reduce energy consumption, and how to reliably predict their annual cost savings. The primary focus is on criteria set points and outside air loads. Hand calculations and spreadsheets are used to estimate savings from potential changes. Handouts include weather data and sources, calculation formula reference sheets, and calculation spreadsheets. This workshop is appropriate for institutional and consulting conservators, as well as operating and maintenance staff. Participants should bring a laptop if they have it available. <URL:http://www.conservation-us.org/ index.cfm?fuseaction=Page.ViewPage&PageID=715#hvac> Museum Mannequins 10 AM - 5 PM; $139 Helen Alten, Northern States Conservation Center Conservators are often asked to construct or consult on costume displays, without having had training in constructing custom-made mannequins. This workshop provides a comprehensive look at all of the methods and materials used in museum mannequin construction today. Participants are given the opportunity to try different materials and experiment with techniques discussed in the lectures.
