Conservator in charge of Conservation Bibliotheque de GeneVE (BGE) City of Geneva job vacancies The Bibliotheque de Geneve (BGE) is one of the major Swiss heritage libraries. Its extensive collections are not only made up of publications and periodicals but also of archives, medieval manuscripts, papyri, geographical maps, posters, photographs, engravings, paintings and musical scores. The recently created Conservation Department is in charge of all preventive conservation, restoration and binding operations. To head the department, the BGE is recruiting a Job description: As Head of the Conservation Department for administrative, financial and human resources matters, you will be in charge of defining and implementing the conservation and restoration policy for the BGE's collections. Your responsibilities: With the Director, you will draw up the BGE's general strategy and its objectives in terms of preventive conservation and restoration. You will plan, organise and supervise the activities in your department, including the restoration and binding studios and the studio for archival box-making. You will use your expertise to supervise the conservation conditions of collections and to ensure they are of the highest standard. Your preventive conservation skills will enable you to manage the stores, reading rooms and exhibitions. You will draw up and update emergency plans for the collections in liaison with the other institutions concerned in the City of Geneva and in Switzerland. You will also be requested to take part in any construction or renovation plans or promotion and communications initiatives in your field of expertise. Your profile: You hold a university degree in conservation and restoration and/or social sciences, in which case you also have a recognised qualification in conservation and restoration. You have practical experience in the conservation and restoration of archive documents, books or heritage documents in libraries and/or professional experience spanning several years of heritage conservation in libraries. In addition to a sound command of written and spoken French, you have very good knowledge of German and English. You can use professional IT tools with ease and are able to manage personnel and budgets. You are exacting and passionate about your profession and will be successful in sharing this passion and obtaining colleagues' endorsement of innovative methods in your area of expertise. You live in the Canton of Geneva or in the authorised zone of residence.
