Subject: Position at Tate
Microfadometer Researcher - Anoxic Framing Tate Location: Millbank, London Closing date: Friday, 15 April 2011 Salary: up to UKP30,500 per annum pro rata Contract type: Fixed term until 4 Sep 2011 The aim of Tate is to increase public awareness, understanding and enjoyment of British art from the 16th century to the present day, and of international modern and contemporary works of art. The Anoxic Project assesses the possibility of framing works of art on paper in oxygen-free conditions - in order to improve their stability in light. The project is funded by the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills and the current phase is exploring the commercial potential of the research and technology developed by the project. This is a great opportunity for a scientist with experience of using a microfadometer in a gallery, museum, university or research establishment to apply their expertise in this ground-breaking heritage science project. Making an impressive contribution to the commercialisation of Anoxic Framing, you'll conduct research on items from the Tate collection to assess their sensitivity to light and potential for low oxygen enclosure. Reporting to the project manager, you'll produce reports, papers and presentations on your results for various audiences. Bringing a PhD or equivalent experience in colour science, optics, instrument design or similar, you've operated a microfadometer before, having done so for research purposes. Experienced in handling fragile materials and artworks, you will be able to prioritise a varied workload and work well under the pressure of deadlines. A naturally strong communicator, you are skilled in technical report writing and you'll be the ideal person to explain complex concepts in a clear manner.
