Subject: Storing watercolours
Croydon Museum Service has a large collection of watercolour paintings in its store. There are approximately 1000 small paintings mainly of local interest. We are proposing to mount the works and store them flat in solander boxes. It has been suggested that storing the work in Melinex sleeves would be more appropriate as the weight of the mounted works when stacked could leave an indentation around the aperture. I wondered if anyone on the list would like to share their professional opinions.
