Frame Conservator
National Maritime Museum
London

UKP23,000 - UKP30,000

With three historic sites housing a range of world-renowned
collections, the National Maritime Museum is a unique and
stimulating environment. It's an exciting time to be here, as we
prepare to open the brand new Sammy Ofer Wing and host the 2012
Olympics equestrian and modern pentathlon competition.

We now need an experienced and ambitious Frame Conservator to
support the Museum's public programme to agreed timescales,
deadlines and standards.

As part of a small team you will be responsible for the conservation
and preservation

of our collection of historic frames and making new frames as
required. You will also assess the condition of the frames, carry
out structural treatment (including fitting build-ups, backboards,
slips and glazing), and undertake courier duties.

Practical experience of conserving historic picture frames from the
16th Century to the present day is essential, as is excellent wood
working skills and the ability to use wood working machinery and
hand tools.

Good communication and coaching skills are important as you may be
required to supervise contractors, students, work placements and
volunteers. The ability to work at heights and carry out some heavy
lifting is essential.
