Renaissance Art"
BP Lecture Theatre
The British Museum
10 - 11 May 2012

First Circular: Call for Papers

As part of the European project CHARISMA (Cultural Heritage Advanced
Research Infrastructures: Synergy for a Multidisciplinary Approach
to Conservation/Restoration), a two-day technical symposium will be
held at The British Museum on 10-11 May 2012. The aim of the
conference is to explore how technical examination of Renaissance
artefacts sheds light not only on their materials and manufacturing
techniques, but also on the prevailing European workshop practice in
the fourteenth to sixteenth centuries. Suggested themes for
presentations include:

Evidence of workshop practice from examination and analysis of
    artefacts

Inter-relations between different crafts and trades

    Supply, demand and trading

Documentary evidence of workshop practice and materials

While the conference themes cover all types of materials, the focus
will be on objects rather than monuments and buildings, although
decorative elements within buildings, such as wall paintings,
terracottas and furnishings will be included.

At this stage we invite the submission of titles and abstracts of up
to 500 words for oral or poster presentations for consideration by
the organising committee, using the form that can be downloaded from
the conference website

The conference language will be English.

The completed form should be emailed to
abstractsWhich is found in this domain_renaissanceworkshop2012_org
