Textile Conservator Islamic Arts Museum of Malaysia The candidate will need to have an in-depth understanding of the techniques involved in conservation ethics, aesthetics and treatments. The textile conservator should have the ability to lead the textile unit and take on extensive hands-on treatment projects as required. It is essential to be a good communicator to explain the work that is being done to staff and professionals alike and carry out technical investigations. This position requires supervising, assessing and continuous development of in-house textile staff and training staff. The successful candidate will be in constant collaboration with the Head of the Department. The tasks of the post will be: To conduct hands-on projects and research for improvement of the current techniques according to the needs of the Museum, in collaboration with the Head of the Department To assess the current condition of textile objects (new acquisitions, galleries, storage) and to write condition reports To care for the textile collection's physical integrity in exhibition and storage, in collaboration with the Curatorial Affairs Department To lead, represent and develop the textile unit of the conservation laboratories according to international standards. This will include training to staff Essential requirements: Educated to degree level, or show equivalent capacities of professional experience in Textile Conservation Good command of the English language, both spoken and written.
