Preventative Conservation Aide Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library Job responsibilities: Is to implement preventive conservation in assigned collection areas. This includes dusting, cleaning and vacuuming of objects and spaces in the period rooms, galleries and storage areas as well as environmental monitoring and pest control. The Preventive Conservation Aide keeps watch over the collection to ensure its well being throughout his/her work day. He/she will assist with object movement. He/She will assist with conservation projects, such as participating in the Collections Emergency Response Team or working with the Lighting Team to change lamps, setting Lutron lighting programs, and adjusting or servicing hardware. Job Requirements: Minimum education: High school diploma/GED (plus 5 years exp) or BA in Art History or related field (plus 1 year exp). Minimum knowledge/skills: Able to work with other departments. Demonstrated sensitivity to the condition, presentation and needs of the collection, ability to work with HVAC monitoring equipment. Able to lift 50 lbs. Able to understand and follow written and oral instructions. Detail oriented. Able to use hand and motorized tools and equipment necessary for collection care in a museum setting. Able to accurately use technical equipment and document information. Able to assist with conservation projects, such as lighting, collections emergency response, etc. Good eye hand coordination and comfort with heights. Basic computer skills. Minimum experience: 5 plus years in housekeeping/general services, plus 1 year museum collections experience with a High School Diploma/GED or with Bachelor's degree, 1 year museum collections experience.
