Conservation and repair of masonry ruins
9-12 May 2011
Course leader:  Graham Abrey

    This course, part of the English Heritage-validated Building
    Conservation Masterclass programme, is primarily designed for
    those concerned with the conservation of ruined structures,
    although the principles and skills are also applicable to roofed
    buildings.  It will include assessment of the structural and
    surface condition of masonry walls, identification of
    traditional materials, fault diagnosis, removal and control of
    organic growth, consolidation and treatment of all tops,
    specification of mortars and grouts and the preparation and
    placing of mortar, with practical exercises using the ruinette.

Conservation for horologists
16-19 May 2011
Course leader:  Trevor Waddington

    Approved by the Institute of Conservation (Icon), this new
    course is unique being specially designed to prepare
    participants for PACR accreditation.  The course will consider
    horological conservation in practice and also provide an
    overview of the composite material nature of horological objects
    necessary for a holistic approach.  It will also establish the
    ethics of conservation and investigates object assessment,
    treatment options/methods and record keeping using case studies.
    Finally, it will include the all-important PACR application and
    assessment process, when individual guidance will be given on
    the completion of the application documentation, including
    Continuous Professional Development (CPD).

Conservation of leather
16-19 May 2011
Course leader:  Yvette Fletcher

    The course is designed both to explore history, manufacture,
    chemistry and use of leather and to review current practice in
    its conservation. The format of the course includes
    demonstrations, practical sessions, lectures and case histories
    and it will be presented by two leading practitioners both
    working and teaching in this specialist area.
