Collections Care Conservator Science Museum, London (15 hours per week over 2 days) Salary: UKP23,970 per annum pro rata inclusive of allowances Job reference: CON/FEB11-EXT 23 month fixed term contract The Science Museum was founded in 1857 with objects shown at the Great Exhibition held in the Crystal Palace. Today the Museum is world renowned for its historic collections, awe-inspiring galleries and inspirational exhibitions. The Science Museum is seeking a flexible and enthusiastic Collections Care Conservator to provide preventive duties of environmental monitoring, Insect Pest Management (IPM), condition reporting and accelerated ageing tests for the Blythe House object storage facility. You will supervise volunteers and conservation interns, provide object awareness training for colleagues working with the collection and have an active role in storage compression and improvement programmes to support the Museum's programmes with collections hazard support as required. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and confident communicating with a wide range of people. Your will have demonstrable skills in problem solving and prioritising, which will be supported by your previous experience within a museum and cultural heritage environment You will be able to demonstrate the ability to plan and execute your own work programmes, provide statistics and promote high collections care standards. The ability to use Collections databases (Mimsy XG) and practical expertise in object handling and risk assessment will be essential.
