Conservation Technician (Exhibitions) New York Public Library Full-time, Permanent The Barbara Goldsmith Conservation Laboratory seeks a qualified conservation technician to perform minor conservation treatment and prepare collection materials for exhibition. Requirements: Bachelor's degree or vocational certificate required. Experience in the preparation of library materials for exhibition; experience in the conservation of paper-based materials. Demonstrated computer and related technology skills. Demonstrated mastery of written and oral communication. Demonstrated ability to perform a range of conservation treatment and exhibition preparation procedures. Demonstrated ability to work on a fixed deadline, work efficiently, handle a large workload, and be flexible. Ability to work collegially across a large, complex, and dynamic organizational setting. Description: Under the direction of the Head of Conservation Treatment and the Senior Conservator for Exhibitions, prepares for exhibition a wide range of paper-based formats, including books, manuscripts, archives, art on paper, photographs, or other artifactual materials from the NYPL's diverse collections. Performs minor conservation treatment on collection materials, including hinging, mending, and surface-cleaning. Uses computer hardware and software in recording conservation and exhibit preparation activities, including database and digital imaging software. Assists in the general maintenance and organization of the conservation laboratory. Participates in disaster response and recovery activities. Performs other related duties as assigned.
