"Learning to Look: African masks" New York Friday February 11, 2011 On Friday February 11, 2011 between 1:00 and 2:00pm, a workshop on African masks will take place in the Michael C. Rockefeller Wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1000 Fifth Avenue, New York City. The workshop will be led by Christine Giuntini, Textile Conservator, Department of the Arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas and Dr. Dr. Yaelle Biro, Assistant Curator for the Arts of Africa. The workshop is part of the "Learning to Look" workshop series organized by the American Institute for Conservation in conjunction with the annual meeting of the College Art Association. First organized in 2002, "Learning to Look" workshops bring together art historians, conservators, and artists to discuss works of art. Led by a curator and a conservator, each workshop focuses on the material aspects of one type of object. Past workshops have focused on Classical art, Abstract Expressionist paintings, Rodin sculptures, and early photographs. The workshop will be limited to twelve participants.
