The ICON Paintings Group "All At Sea: A Closer Look at Turner's Seascapes" Joyce Townsend Conservation scientist, Tate Britain and Amelia Jackson Conservator for Turner and the Masters, Tate, 2009, now freelance London Thursday, 10 February 2011 Joyce Townsend and Amelia Jackson will discuss the examination, materials and treatment of a 1840s seascape by Turner, Fishing Boats Bringing a Disabled Ship into Port Ruysdael which was exhibited at the RA in 1844. Joyce will set the scene for the arrival of the Turner bequest at Tate, Amelia will describe her observations during treatment, illustrated with details of the paint surface, and these will be related to cross-sections, and detailed analysis of other late seascapes examined by Joyce.
