Climate Technician Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna The Kunsthistorisches Museum <URL:http://www.khm.at>, together with the Museum for Ethnology and the Austrian Theatre Museum constitute one of the most formidable cultural institutions in Europe. The considerably varied and rich collections span from the antique/Egyptian periods, to the early 19th century. A wide range of materials (stone, ivory, metal, wood, fabric, paper etc...) are present in the form of sculpture, decorative arts, arms and armour, numismatics, paintings, and archival material. The storage and display of the collections are primarily found within historically significant (registered) buildings, dating from the 16th to 19th centuries. The necessary climatic conditions for the varied, and often quite sensitive, artworks must be maintained while at the same time providing a comfortable and clean surrounding for the museum visitor. For this undertaking we are interested in an experienced Climate Technician. Requirements: Training from a recognized technical/vocational institute with a specialization in interior climate science or technical building supervision (physical plant). Minimum 4 years of previous experience in climate control/studies. Additional experience in the field of preventive conservation. Experience in project management, supervision of working teams, and delegation of work consignments. Competence in English language; written and spoken. Additional qualifications in civil engineering and energy saving procedures a plus. Team compatibility and communication skills. Responsibilities Evaluation of the present climatic situation within the various museum environments coupled with assisting technical data and analysis. Evaluation of the recent plans to reactivate the historical ventilation shafts within the museum structure, as well as a pilot project regarding a passive / integrated wall heating system. Re-evaluation/calibration of necessary temperature and humidity parameters within museum / storage areas. Proposed measures for climate stabilization/improvements, including structural/adaptation requirements for the years 2011 to 2015. Recruitment of external consultants for required technical support. Budget requirements for individual projects. Negotiations with property owners/agents (state officials), building occupants (museum personnel) as well as partners and contractors for specific projects. Supervision of project planning/development/realization and accurate communication of progress and results. Final evaluation of all implemented measures. Quality control for all running systems and developing projects. Proper coordination of all climate-based necessities between numerous Conservation professionals and the Exhibition Department. Reserved allowance(s) as responsible technician for museum climate control systems. Full time position / 40 hours. Salary commensurate with project results.
