Summer work project Upholstered Furniture/Objects Conservation The conservation department at the Indianapolis Museum of Art (IMA) has opportunities for graduate conservation students to participate in the treatment of a suite of c. 1860 Leon Marcotte seating furniture a sofa and two chairs. Depending upon interest, specialization and experience, the student will devise and test treatment protocols for the furniture frames and metal mounts and/or the original under upholstery. Minimally intrusive methods are desired for compensating for lost under upholstery elements and for attaching a replica silk damask show cover. A stipend of $2,500 may be awarded if application is made through the IMA's Internship/Scholar Program by the January 7, 2011 deadline.
