Meerschaum pipe

I have been working on a meerschaum pipe which was bonded with
inappropriate adhesive and impossible to dismantle without
significant damage to the object.  Porous body and wax coating
limited use and time of application for most of the solvents. I got
really interested in this material and plan to do my MA research
based on meerschaum pipes. Has anybody came across these objects? If
you have bonded or dismantled them, which materials did you use?
Any information will help due to literature about this material is
very obscure.
