Assistant Conservator
Denver Museum of Nature and Science

The Denver Museum of Nature and Science is seeking an Assistant
Conservator. Reporting to the Conservation Department Chair, the
Assistant Conservator helps the DMNS implement museum standards and
best stewardship practices to care for collections. In addition to
preventive conservation, grant and loan activities, the Assistant
Conservator will help prepare collections for a move into a new
purpose-built storage facility. Specifically, activities will
include examination, documentation, and treatment of anthropology,
archaeology, and natural history objects. The Assistant Conservator
will also consult with Collections Managers on the most appropriate
methods and materials for mounts, packing and moving, and testing
preservation methods and materials as appropriate. Green practices
will be incorporated in the move and new facility.

Additional administrative duties include assisting with the
development and implementation of the Museum Conservation Department
work plan, budgets, Long-range Conservation Plan, Collections Move
Protocols, and assisting with the writing and implementation of
collections-related grants.

Masters of Art Conservation or equivalent experience in the
preservation of museum collections is required. A minimum of
three-four years museum experience is recommended. This position is
term (expected 4-5 years), full time, and is salaried with health,
dental, and retirement benefits. The closing date for applications
is December 4, 2009. Start date will be as soon as possible after
January 4, 2010.
