Conservator of old master- and/or modern paintings Temporary position The Netherlands Institute for Cultural Heritage (ICN) at the Collections Department in Rijswijk/The Hague, the Netherlands. Closing date: December 18, 2009 The Netherlands Institute for Cultural Heritage (ICN) houses the State Collection (ca 100.000 objects) and has a Conservation Department with an international reputation. In 2007 an ambitious three year project has started concerning the conservation of over 4000 objects on loan to the Dutch ministries. The project will end December 2010. The ICN is looking for a--preferably full-time (36 hrs/week)--well-qualified conservator with a Master-degree in the conservation of old master and/or modern paintings. In addition to a high level of practical skills in the restoration of paintings, the candidate must have the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a wide range of individuals. He or she will be highly self-motivated and able to organise his/her own workload with a minimum of supervision and be able to work independently and in a team. Familiarity with digital photography, as well as experience with Word, Excel and Photoshop is required. The conservator is to undertake a wide range of activities within this project: Checking, assessing and reporting on the condition of paintings, on location and in the studio Cleaning and conservation Structural repair work The ICN offers a temporary contract through a Dutch employment agency. Salary will be depending on qualifications and experience. The appointment is initially for six months, with the intention to extend the contract for another half year until the end of 2010.
