Subject: Corrosion on aluminum alloy
I am planning a practical research project to try and find a suitable chemical technique for removing corrosion from aluminium alloy (navigation objects). Phosphoric acid has been mentioned in some conservation literature so I intend to investigate that first by utilising coupon tests. I am aware of the various corrosion inhibitors that exist for aluminium but would prefer not to investigate these and instead study chemicals with the potential to remove corrosion without introducing further corrosion prevention. The objects concerned are small and stored in controlled conditions. Any comments or suggestions will be most appreciated.
