Conservation Training Day on Metals Sheffield Friday 6 November 2009 The Society of Archivists' Preservation and Conservation Group has arranged a training day to take place on 6 November 2009, on the subject of book locks and clasps. The programme is as follows: The morning session will be at Sheffield archives, 52 Shoreham Street, Sheffield and the afternoon session will be held at The Academy of Makers which is a short walk from Sheffield Archives. I have booked a workshop for the afternoon sessions between 2-4pm. 10:45-11:15am Arrival, registration and refreshments 11:15-12pm John Lambert Picking locks on books with practical session for delegates 12-12:30pm Debby Rohan A history of clasps 12:30-2pm Lunch at Red Lion pub 2-2:30pm Julian Thomas Repairing a brass clasp with silver solder 2:30-4pm Debby Rohan Practical session, cutting and filing of brass sheet Places are limited to twelve delegates on a first-come basis. If there is sufficient demand, it may be possible to hold another day next year. The cost of the day is UKP35 for Society members and UKP45 for non-members, lunch not included.
