Following on from the talk Dr. Bronwyn Ormsby, Senior Conservation
Scientist at Tate, gave in October 2007, half way through the Tate
AXA Art Modern Paints Project (2006 - 2009), this talk will present
the project's major findings with an emphasis on results pertaining
to practical issues. This soon to be completed AXA Art funded
project has consisted of five important aspects relating to the
wet-cleaning and preservation of acrylic emulsion paints and
paintings including: general paint properties; cleaning solution
efficacy; varnish removal; dirt deposition and the evaluation of
surface cleaning treatments on acrylic emulsion paintings from
Tate's collection. Ongoing collaborative research, future plans and
areas requiring further research will also be highlighted.
