Conservator The Smithsonian Institution National Air and Space Museum The National Air and Space Museum seeks a Conservator in the Conservation Unit of the Collections Division. This position provides technical and administrative support to the NASM Chief Conservator in the preparation of reports, collections of data, and care of the National collections. Applicants must have: Skill in conducting basic collections care tasks including artifact condition examination, conservation treatment, preventative conservation, use of a collections information system data base, and preparation of object condition reports Knowledge of the operation and calibration of environmental monitoring equipment, such as visible light meters, ultra violet radiation meters, hygrothermographs, and temperature/humidity data loggers Knowledge of artifact collections care issues such as artifact handling, environmental conditions, artifact storage and cleaning Skill in the use of stationary and power hand tools to construct custom artifact supports and to clean and disassemble complex artifacts Ability to assemble complex reports with narrative, data charts, images and graphs; an Ability to communicate orally to work effectively in a team environment This is a federal civil service position, grade 11, $60,989 - $79280 annually, dependent on education and experience.
